What this tool does

The Mythology Quiz checks how much you actually remember about the gods, heroes and stories from a culture of your choosing, from Greek and Norse to Egyptian and beyond.

You pick the tradition you want to be tested on and the difficulty, and the quiz builds a set of questions around that. It covers characters, family trees, famous episodes and the meanings behind the tales, rather than just asking you to match a name to a role.

When to use it

It is handy if you have been reading through the myth pages on the site and want to see what has stuck, or if you are revising for a school or university module that touches on classical and world mythology. Teachers and parents sometimes use it as a quick warm up activity before a lesson or a family film night tied to a myth based story.

It also suits casual readers who enjoyed a retelling, a novel or a game drawing on mythology and want to find out how much of the original lore they have picked up. Beginners can start on the easier settings and work up, while longtime fans can go straight for the harder questions to see if the quiz can catch them out.

How it works

Choose a culture and a difficulty level, then answer the questions one by one. At the end you get your score along with a short explanation for each answer, so you can see where you went wrong and pick up a few new facts along the way. Nothing you enter is stored, and you can take a fresh quiz as many times as you like, getting different questions each round.
